We can certainly help move your SUV as part of a household shipment. Because of the weight of your SUV, you will need to have a wrecker come an put it on the moving truck. This should cost around $50. Trying to put an SUV on the regular car loading ramps that Movex provides can cause the ramps to crack or break. Even spending the extra money to put the SUV on the moving van, it is going to be a lot less expensive than driving it.

How is the car loaded onto the truck? You say no surprise costs, but do we have to get a flatbed to load and unload the car? Your website implies you have ramps for normal size cars.

There are two ways to load your car onto the moving truck. The primary way to load is using the loading ramps that are provided with your move. They separate in the middle and are designed to have cars driven on them for loading into moving trucks.

If your car is low to the ground (or is a big SUV/Pickup truck that is too heavy for the ramps), you will need to have a flatbed wrecker come and load your vehicle on the day of the move. This cost is usually between $35 and $75 depending on where you live. This will not come as a surprise. When you get pricing from your relocation specialist, they will get the information about your car and help you determine if a flatbed wrecker will be needed.

If you are going to load your car or SUV with items, you need to load the vehicle first and then load the goods into it after it is on the moving truck. If you load a bunch of heavy items into an SUV, it could exceed the weight limit of the loading ramps and cause them to break under the weight.... which would not be pleasant. :-)

Thanks, we kinda like our service too! You ask two important questions.

1) Yes, you can put things in the back of the pickup truck, but only AFTER you have loaded the pickup onto the moving van. If you load your pickup truck down with heavy items and try to drive up the ramp, the extra weight could break the ramps. You definitely do not want that to happen!
2) We can certainly have the moving truck deliver to a storage facility. Also, you can change destination addresses (as long as it is going to the same city) up to the day before delivery with no financial charge.

The bulk of the moving trucks are 53ft long, 8.5 ft wide, and 9ft high (inside dimensions). They can generally hold as much as 22,000# of HHG on one vehicle.

All of the trucks that Movex uses are equipped with furniture blankets, loading ramps, tie-down straps, and a dolly. The ramps are suitable for loading most cars into the moving van. You should calculate 16ft of space on the truck for most mid-size cars. Rates for moving your car on the moving truck are lower than the household goods rates, so make sure that you discuss with your relocation specialist that you are moving a car and they will make sure that you get the discounted auto shipping rates.

If you load the up truck and then try to drive it up the ramps, it could cause the loading ramps to break from all of the extra weight (we know this from experience. I noticed from reading the other postings, that my car can be shipped along with my belongings. Can i ship two cars and a motorcycle? What can i do to have this type of shipment? (2bdr apt, two cars, motorcycle)

I'll be moving my car along with my items from Rockville, MD to Texas. However, I'm aware that we load the truck ourselves. What about the car? Does the driver assist with that? Also, will the car's exterior be padded or walls inside the truck for protection from damage?

The moving trucks have ramps available. You drive your car right into the truck. The driver will put the ramps in place for you, but he is not allowed to load it for you. The trucks are 8.5 ft wide. The walls are not padded, but the car should never come in contact with the walls of the truck.

What are your restrictions on moving a vehicle? Say for example a motorcycle? Can I crate it up and load it in the truck? I've also seen small cars loaded in the back of an Atlas Semi. Do you do that?

I read on someone else's question that you could transport the vehicle in the van with their furniture. Are the transport vehicles long enough for two vehicles and furniture? I am moving from the equivalent furnishings of a 2 bedroom apartment. I am moving from Tampa to Chicago. Also, do you have a service with licensed movers to do the loading?

I soon will be moving from Michigan to California. Can your company legally hitch a car to a trailer? If so what would be the general costs?

If you ship a car, how do you empty the gas tank?

You do not have to empty the gas tank to move your vehicle. If you are shipping a lawn mower or another "motorized" vehicle, you should empty the tanks. Modern cars are designed with tanks that do not create volatile situations when moving them. Thanks for the good question. We hear that one a lot!
