> Ask A Question > Add A Comment from Kelly L. in ID - May 15, 2008 What size truck would you have to have to hold a shipment of 3250 cubic feet?
Kelly,
We specialize in large shipments. For a shipment of this size, you will need exclusive use of a 53ft moving van. We have surprisingly affordable rates for these truckload shipments. Please call 800-876-6839 and let the relocation specialist know that you need a full-truck rate.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from LATISHA S. in IN - May 15, 2008 I have a 10x10 storage. What size truck is recommended to move the items inside? Latisha,
It all depends on how full the storage unit is. If it is full, you will need between 12 and 14ft of space on one of the moving trucks to have the same volume of space in which to load.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Kerrie R. in AL - May 11, 2008 How many sq feet does the 6ft of the truck give? How long do I have to load and unload the truck? Kerrie,
The moving trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft tall. The quote that you got was for 6ft in length at the above dimensions.
For a shipment that small, we would plan on leaving the moving truck for 4 hours for you to load. Of course, if you need more time it is available. Simply let your relocation specialist know when you book your order.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Tammie V. in IN - April 14, 2008 i am moving from indianapolils to seattle. i will not be moving any furniture, only the remaining contents of 1 bedroom/1 bath and a very small amt. of miscellanious things. what is the easiest/cost friendly option for me? Tammie,
Movex can provide you a space on the moving truck as small as 6ft x 8.5ft x 9ft. That should be enough space to fit what you have without being "overkill". If you filled out one of our quote request forms above, one of our relocation specialists will be emailing rates to you shortly.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Pat M. in OH - March 30, 2008 H- I asked for a quote then read Q&A - was hoping to add more detail to get best quote! Need to move a queen size bed and eight 2' X 2'X 2' square moving boxes (clothes, records, dvd's, cd's, misc junk). Can you provide good estimate? Move from Brooklyn NY to Westerville OH - pick up stuff in NY ny day between the 15th and 30th of April. Pat,
Your request was sent over to one of our relocation specialists. They will email you a quote and will follow up with some other alternatives for your small shipment that may be more economical than moving truck service.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Melanie B. in FL - March 20, 2008 Relocating from SLC, UT to Orlando, FL. Can you provide an estimate. Approx load size 12000LBs. Thanks. Melanie,
A rate should already have been sent to you via email. If you have any questions or would like to discuss booking your move, relocation specialists are standing by at 800-876-6839.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Lunis K. in CO - March 2, 2008 I have to "ship" an arcade style video game across country to New York, from the Boulder area in Colorado. Would Movex consider moving only 1 item? Many thanks. Lunis,
You need to call our offices and ask for a "small move" specialist. We have a couple of representatives that do nothing but work with these small shipments. We can get it moved safely and at a competitive price.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from justina F. in MD - February 12, 2008 I am moving some furniture out of an apartment. Its on a few items, i.e: a bedroom set, medium size boxes and a computer. Around how much is that going to cost me? Justina,
We have special programs for small moves that are very good values. We have your request from the form above. One of our relocation specialists will be sending you some information via email that will explain options and pricing.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Alex P. in TX - January 27, 2008 Hi,
I'll be moving to Bronx, NY from San Antonio, TX. I don't have furniture to move, I just need maybe 10 boxes moved. 5 small and 5 medium size Uhaul boxes. Is there anything you can recommend?
Thanks! Alex,
You should absolutely use UPS for that size shipment. Take your boxes to your local UPS store and they will ship them at the most competitive rate. Using Movex for that kind of shipment is swatting flies with an elephant gun. If you have furniture AND boxes, Movex can't be beat. Just boxes, go with UPS.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Laurel W. in VA - January 27, 2008 I did the estimator, and I think that 3 linear feet will be enough. I had asked for a quote for a studio apartment, not knowing that we could do it a different way. How do I change my request for an estimate. Laurel,
We received your request on the form that you filled out. I have sent this message to your relocation specialist so that they can update the space and pricing for your moving truck.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from JoAnna H. in NM - January 14, 2008 Do you think that with a 3/4 brdm house, a two car garage and one vehicle would all store completely in one truck?? If so, would that change the pricing? JoAnna,
The moving vans that we use are 53' long, 8.5ft wide, and 9ft high inside. This is the largest commercial vehicle available for moving. To answer your question, you would probably completely fill the moving truck if you included your car with the shipment. If you pack your furniture tightly, it should leave enough room to fit everything described above as long as your home is not extremely heavily furnished. A call to one of our relocation specialists at 800-876-6739 will help clarify this.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from AUNDREA J. in TX - January 11, 2008 I JUST NEED A KING SIZE MATTRESS SHIPPED FROM LAWTON, OK TO FORT WORTH, TX. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW PRICING INFO FOR THAT.
THANKS Aundrea,
We would be swatting flies with an elephant gun if you utilized our service for your small shipment (meaning that the price would be more than the mattress is worth). We suggest going to the UPS store for 1 piece shipments like that. If you have several furniture items, renting space on a moving truck is the way to go.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Ashley M. in LA - December 30, 2007 I'm moving a king size bed, and two dressers (long and tall). Would a 12' truck be enough or would I be better off with a 16'? Ashley,
The moving trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft tall. If all you are moving is those three items, I would recommend 8' of space on the truck (unless the dressers are longer than 8.5 feet at which time I would go with 10'). Any more than that would be overkill and you would be paying for space that you don't really need.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Michael P. in WA - December 4, 2007 Last year I had a moving company transport my household from WA state to Las Vegas. The filled truck (plus lift) was estimated at 2200 cu. ft and 15,000 lb. I am moving the same load back and am giving out this info (namely the 2200 cu ft) to potential movers. What size truck would an experienced/notable mover recommend knowing nothing else? Michael,
As you know, professional movers make a living by packing every inch of space on the truck. The loading and unloading is actually the most expensive part of the move. If I were ordering a moving truck from Movex with the intention of arranging or actually loading and unloading myself, I would order the whole 53' moving truck. By ordering the whole truck, you get a really good price break as well as a quicker transit time since they don't have to pick up other customers along the way.
To answer your question more thoroughly, a professional mover could load that shipment into 3/4 of a moving van. If you want to save a lot of money, order the truck from Movex and do the loading and unloading.
Making Moving Better, Movex from cara B. in PA - November 28, 2007 I have just one piece of furnature, an antique desk that I want to move from the Boston area to Pittsburgh, PA. Do you perform this service? Cara,
Yes, we can provide moving truck service for any size shipment. We may refer you to one of our more cost-effective partners that services your local area.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Deborah P. in IL - November 11, 2007 My son is moving to Las Vegas. He doesn't have much in the way of furniture. The main items he has are chests of automotive tools, he is a mechanic. How would that be priced? Deborah,
Movex service is for household goods only. If you have a big toolbox, you can ship it as part of your household items. However, if you have a full "mechanic shop" set of tools, you may need to crate them and ship them via freight. The moving trucks that we use cannot haul the excessive weight of the tools.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Olga G. in SC - November 7, 2007 My daughter and I are contemplating moving from Beaufort SC to Atlanta GA we do not have a set date yet but she resides on Lady's Island and I reside in Port Royal. She has a 3 bedroom apt. and I have a 1 bedroom apt. what size truck would either one of us need, and approx. how much would this cost of a truck/move cost us? We are trying to get a feel of how much this move on a whole would be costing us. Thank you Olga Gattling Olga,
You are moving from a very pretty place. I have eaten at Dockside in Port Royal and know the area well. You and your daughter should share a moving truck. The two of you would probably only take up half of one of the moving vans that we utilize.
We don't give out prices on the forum, but I have passed your request to one of our relocation specialists who will be getting back to you shortly with pricing and helpful suggestions.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Emily S. in CA - October 29, 2007 I noticed that you move cars in your trucks. I'm looking to move my 3 room apt belongings along with a 1994 Toyota Paseo (very small car). I requested a quote for a 5+ room truck. Do you think that size truck would fit all of my belongings? Or do you think I could fit everything on a smaller truck? Emily,
The moving vans that Movex provides are 53ft long. That should be ample space to hold all of your belongings and your car. For other readers, make sure that you ask your relocation specialist about full-truck pricing. Sometimes you can rent an entire moving van for just a couple of hundred dollars more. That will get you preferred dates and quicker transit times.
Making Moving Better, Movex from wendy W. in CA - October 29, 2007 moving to texas from calif. Have around 50 boxes med size, 1 wardrobe box, 1 60" rnd table with 6 chairs, 1 rocker, 1 32" tv, 1 small hutch. Need to know approx. cost, insurance if any and how much in advance needed to have service provided. Wendy,
We also got the request that you filled out on the form at the top of the page (where the process starts for all of you that are reading). A relocation specialist will be back with moving truck pricing and some other opportunities that we have for your type of moving job. We provide $5000 of coverage for free with every move and more is available at additional cost. Again, your relocation specialist can walk you through that process and get you the information that you need for your move.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Audrey W. in NY - October 22, 2007 I have a 6 piece sectional sofa that I'd like to send from Buffalo NY to Jacksonville NC. in asking for a quote on your web site, the only options it gave me was for number of bedrooms. Could I get a quote for only the sectional I wish to ship sometime between March & April 2008 Audrey,
Currently, the smallest shipment size that we can sell on the moving trucks is 6ft. For your sectional, that is probably overkill and will cost a few hundred dollars. I would recommend going to a packaging store with this request. They will be your most competitive option.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Kate S. in NC - October 12, 2007 I need to move a child's toy kitchen from VT to NC before 11/3/07. Weight is apprx 150#. Size is 62"L x 48"H by 18"D. Material is wood. Kate,
I am not trying to talk Movex out of any business, but you should wrap that thing in cardboard and ship it via UPS. That really is more of a package shipment than a moving truck shipment. Hope that info helps.
Making Moving Better, Movex from ellen P. in CO - September 12, 2007 i have a small storage locker in nashua, n.h.-several dressers, table and household goods that i need moved to denver, co. to a storage locker. do you do this and if so what would be the price. would be doing this beginning of oct. Ellen,
We can certainly help you with that small move. You will find that our pricing for moving trucks is generally competitive with Uhaul.. and we provide the driver, fuel, and moving equipment!
As for pricing, please fill out the form above and one of our relocation specialists will be with you shortly to discuss options.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Sade M. in TN - August 31, 2007 I am doing a military move from Memphis,TN to Tacoma,WA.We have a two twin beds,a chair with ottoman, five medium boxes of cookware,10 large boxes of clothes,a queen mattress with boxspring, file cabinet,32 in flatscreen, and a microfiber sectional that seats six.How much will our move cost? Sade,
We can help answer some questions in this forum, but we do not price our services here. If you would like a quote, please fill out the form at the top of this page and one of our relocation specialists will contact you shortly with pricing. I am sending your request above to one of them now and they will have moving truck pricing for you shortly.
Making Moving Better, Movex from A R. in PA - August 31, 2007 We have a 10x20 storage unit. It is pretty full but not all the way to the ceiling. We have 1 bedroom set (queen mattress and head/foot boards, long and tall dresser and two nightstands), kitchen table & 4 chairs, couch, lg chair, and rocker, 3 tables, entertainment center, and many, many boxes (probably 125-150 in varying sizes). Everything was packed up by the military and we put it right into storage. How big of a truck do you think we will need? Your best bet on a move like this is to purchase the equivalent of a 10x20 storage unit on the moving truck. The moving trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft tall, so you should conservatively be safe ordering 26 to 28ft of space on the moving truck.
One of our relocation specialists would be happy to discuss this with you further and help you finalize truck size.
Making Moving Better, Movex from khrissy S. in KS - August 21, 2007 hello, i have a friend that is moving and she needs to know what size truck to get. she has a small kitchen table, four chairs, sofa small tv stand, tv, full size bed, twin bed, crib, king size bed, 3 dressers and washer and dryer, coffee table, and 2 end tables, plus about 50 small boxes. should she get a 16 foot truck. Khrissy,
16ft on a moving truck should be fine for what you have described above. The 50 small boxes will take up a lot more room than you think, but with the light furnishings, you should be okay at 16. The best thing to do is to make a sample "moving truck" space in your living room. The trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft high. If you can fit everything into that amount of space, it will fit into the moving van and you won't have any nasty moving day surprises.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Jay M. in FL - August 13, 2007 Moving from Lebanon PA to Jacksonville FL Approx 15 Boxes and a motorcycle. Can you provide this service? Jay,
Not only can we provide that serice, but we can also provide it at a very competitive rate. One of our major moving truck "traffic lanes" is up and down the East Coast. Fill out the form at the top of the page and we will get some rates to you asap.
Making Moving Better, Movex from gina G. in OH - August 13, 2007 I am moving from ohio to california. I have a a seven ft Nascar bed. Can we fit that on a 8ft space and my two couches and boxes. I have a one bedroom apartment to move. Approx. 900 square ft. Gina,
The moving trucks that we use are 8.5ft wide and 9ft high. If you stand your couch up on end (using the provided straps to secure it), you should be able to fit all of that into 8ft of space on the truck. I would suggest that you measure out that amount of space on the floor in your family room just to make certain. If everything will fit into 8ft x 8.5ft x 9ft, it will fit onto the moving truck in the same amount of space.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Robert H. in FL - August 10, 2007 I have a desk that is approximately 3ft w x 4ft high x 2ft deep. I want to ship it from Sarasota, Fl 34243 to Milford, Ct 06461. Time is flexible. What would it cost to ship? Robert,
Since we ship everything on moving trucks, we have a minimum shipment size of 6ft of space on the moving van. Our minimum charge is $910. You could certainly put a whole lot more than 1 desk in 6ft of space so if you have anything else that you want to move to fill out the space, this would be a great opportunity to move it.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Robin G. in MA - August 5, 2007 I need to move a couch and entertainment center from Maryland to Massachusetts - no rush -is this possible? Robin,
That is certainly possible. The smallest shipment that we take on the moving trucks is 6ft. That should hold your items listed above with room left over. If you have not already filled out a quote request form, do it now and a relocation specialist will be with you shortly with special pricing.
Making Moving Better, Movex from jon M. in WA - August 1, 2007 3 bedrooms, 4 couches, 2 beds, night stands, dining room table... how many of the moving containers would i need? i have an annoying dog too. can you bring him along? Jon,
That is about the funniest thing that I have seen written on this forum. I could send you my annoying dog to keep yours company!
You are probably going to need between 14 and 16 feet of a moving truck. Space needed may vary based on how heavily furnished those 3 bedrooms are. I would suggest making a quick call to one of our relocation specialists at 800-876-6839. They can spend a few minutes on the phone with you and help you narrow your search. We have some new specials that are coming out of your area too that may save you some money.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Isaac O. in NE - July 28, 2007 We are moving from Omaha, NE to Denver, CO. We will have no more than 1200-1500lbs. I was wondering how much it would cost. Isaac,
One of our relocation specialists will be with you shortly. Movex provides door-to-door transportation on moving trucks and our minimum shipment size is 6ft (or about 2000#). Even with the minimums, we should still be able to provide you with a competitive quote.
Making Moving Better, Movex from L D. in NJ - July 26, 2007 I am moving from Bedminster,NJ to New Orleans,LA. Do you service this area? I have approx. 35 boxes/no furniture. Is this the type of move you make? Are you able to schedule something for the end of July and at what price for 5 linear ft? Thanks L,
We service both of those areas and a relocation specialist will be with you shortly to assist with availability and pricing for the moving truck. The end of July is just about full, but I am sure that we can sqeeze a small shipment like that into the schedule.
Making Moving Better, Movex from betsy M. in VA - July 24, 2007 I have 3 storage units totaling around 700-740 square feet. They may not be filled to the top, so...What size truck would I need? How much space? Thank you. Betsy,
If we assume that the storage units are 7 x 10 (700 sq.ft), and you have 3 of them, you should need between 22 and 26 ft. Your variable will be how filled they are and how bulky your furniture items are. When in doubt, order and extra couple of feet. It is better to have too much space on loading day than not enough.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Robert G. in MO - July 19, 2007 What if I use less space than originally ordered? Will the rate decrease or stay the same? Robert,
Movex will give you a guaranteed rate for the space that you reserve on the moving truck. Since we order the space in advance and plan the entire trip based on that sold space, we do not refund for space ordered that is not used. One of our relocation specialists would be happy to make reservations for whatever size shipment you choose to ship. They can be reached at 800-876-6839.
Making Moving Better, Movex from lisa F. in MD - July 18, 2007 Can I rent a small 10X12 trailer and hitch, one way from MD to NC? Lisa,
We do provide the kind of rental trailer that you are talking about. We can provide service for moves that small, but it would be door to door service on a moving truck, not a trailer rental. The driver, fuel, and all of the equipment would be included in the price that you received when you filled out the form above. If you have any further questions or would like to book your reservation, please contact our relocation specialists at 800-876-6839.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Francis R. in TX - July 17, 2007 We're moving from Sugar Land Tx to Lancaster, CA. We will be moving about 3-4 rooms and 1 small SUV, will your company be able to provide this service? How soon do we need to do this if we need to in California by Aug. 19th? Thanks. Francis,
We provide service to just about anywhere in the 48 contiguous United States. We would be pleased to help you with your move. Summer is the busiest time of yera, so the sooner you make your moving truck reservations, the better. There is still good availability for August 19th. Usually, the last week of the month books up the fastest and obviously, you are planning on going prior to that.
Making Moving Better, Movex from deborah M. in SC - July 8, 2007 I am moving from sc 29640 to pa 19382. 1000 sq foot house, not sure what size truck space needed? Can i unload in 1 day and you pick up the truck that same day? reason being,,belongings are going to be moved in to storage and we must be in and out of gate between 6:00 am - 9:00pm.
than-you have a great day Deborah,
The amount of space that you will need on the moving truck will vary with how heavily furnished your home is. An average 1000 sq ft house should fit comfortably into 12 to 14 ft of space on the moving van.
Most of our pickups and deliveries take place in one day. Our competitors all want to leave the truck overnight. We realize how inconvenient and unsecure this is, so we will remove the moving truck at the end of the day. There should be no problem with your storage facility (make sure that they can accommodate a full-size moving truck).
Making Moving Better, Movex from NANCY T. in CA - July 7, 2007 I HAVE A PORTABLE BARBQUE THAT IS MADE FROM AN OLD TRUCK BED CAN YOU MOVE THIS? IF SO WHAT WOULD THE COST BE, I AM ALSO NEEDING TO MOVE A 3+ BEDROOM HOUSE WHAT WOULD THE COST BE? I FILLED OUT THE FORM BUT IT WILL NOT SEND I PLAN ON MOVING AROUND AUGUST 10 2007 Nancy,
I bet you cook some good BBQ in a converted truck bed! As long as it is not more than 8ft wide, you ought to be able to fit that inside the moving truck.
I checked the online form, it seems to be working fine. As I mentioned in another post, the quickest way to get an accurate and guaranteed quote is to call our relocation specialists at 800-876-6839. I cannot help you with specific quotes in this forum as I need more information to be accurate.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Laura P. in WA - July 5, 2007 What if on the day of the move, we realize that we have more stuff than we thought. Is it possible to change the amount of space we get on the truck on the day of the move? Laura,
During the slower times of the year (fall and winter), the moving trucks might have some extra space on the day of loading. You can purchase that from us at the same rate per foot that you paid for the rest of the load. That being said, this time of year the trucks are fully-booked. I would order a couple of extra feet of space. Too much space makes moving easier, not enough makes it stressful. You will have enough going on moving day that you do not need the stress of running out of room for all of your stuff.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Ann E. in CO - July 5, 2007 I just have an upholstered chair that I need shipped to Virginia. It is too large for a mailing service. Can I "piggy back" with someone elses shipment? Ann,
One piece moving is the "black hole" of the moving business. Our minimum shipment size is 6ft of space on the moving truck. This would fit one room of furniture and would be too costly for what you are trying to accomplish.
I would recommend going to the UPS store for this type of shipment. They have a service that will shrinkwrap and palletize your chair and then ship it to the destination. Unfortunately, it is still going to be rather costly.
Sorry we don't have a better solution... sounds like a business opportunity for us!
Making Moving Better, Movex from George K. in MI - May 7, 2007 I need to move two sea kayaks from MI to CA, plus 5-10 med boxes and boxed artwork (assume 10 4' X 5"' X .8' boxes) the kayaks are 13-15'X 2'X 1.5'. Are you able to accomodate the kayaks? George, The moving trucks are 53ft long we can certainly get you enough room on one of them to load your kayaks. Make sure that you tell your relocation specialist the dimensions when you are setting up your move.
Making Moving Better Movex from Ronda W. in MO - April 28, 2007 My kids are moving from Columbia, MO, to Ocala, FL. They have two bedrooms to move, not a lot of furniture. What's the best way for them to go? Any suggestions? For that size shipment, we would suggest 8 to 10 feet of truck space. If you call our office at 800-876-6839, a relocation specialist can provide you with pricing on those sizes. Making Moving Better Movex from Lori C. in VA - April 28, 2007 If we ask for approximately 30 feet and to take our minivan, how long will we have to load the van? Lori, We would give you the entire day for that size shipment... from 8am to 8pm if necessary. Making Moving Better Movex from deb G. in CA - April 16, 2007 moving a college student from a dorm in Rohnert Park to Orange County, ca Do you do small moves? Deb, We sure do. Many college students find our service easy and affordable. Making Moving Better, Movex from Darrell C. in WI - April 9, 2007 moving from milwaukee to tucson only moving 1 bedroom, hutch 2 corner units(cabnets) 4 table tv,s kitchen table 4 chairs several tv stands and boxes from the kitchen, clothes computers couple of table lamps, will I have enough room in 8ft. of space? Darrell, Based on the list that you have sent us here, I think that should be about right. The best thing to do is measure out that amount of space and make sure that all of your goods will fit into it prior to the moving truck arriving. Then you won't have any surprises. Making Moving Better, Movex from amy K. in NJ - April 8, 2007 I want to move a few items from Florida to NJ. Do you do that kind of thing? Amy, We sure do. If you fill out the quick quote form at the top of this page, you can get some pricing for your shipment. Making Moving Better Movex from ada N. in CA - April 5, 2007 Hi, just want to know, how I find out the rigth size truck for my house.
Ada Ada, All of the trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft tall. At your home, pick a room and measure out that width (8.5). You can then "see" the amount of space that you would need. You can also call 800-876-6839 and speak to a relocation specialist who can walk you through the process and give you some ideas on how much space to reserve on the moving truck. Making Moving Better Movex from Anne V. in OR - March 31, 2007 Do you move single items of furniture? I have a small desk that I need moved from Vermont to Bend,Oregon. If you do, what would it cost? Thanks, Anne, Your best bet for this is to go to a UPS store and have them box it and ship it. Unless the desk is very, very valuable and needs to be shipped on an air-ride moving van and padded and strapped in (which is what our service provides). Our minimum shipment is going to run over $1000 for that distance. Making Moving Better Movex from Crystal M. in CA - March 31, 2007 What is the exact measurment for a one bedroom apt. 4 X ? X ? Crystal, 4 x 8.5ft wide x 9ft tall. Making Moving Better, Movex from Terry V. in TX - March 18, 2007 Will the 20ft. accomodate 3br. plus living, dining, patio, garage & washer/dryer plus refridgerator? Terry, You probably would be a little short depending on how full your garage is. The best way to figure this out is to measure the space off in your driveway. The trucks are 8.5 ft wide and 9ft tall inside. With those dimensions, measure out 20ft in your driveway (or garage). If all of your shipment will not fit in that size space on a moving truck, order a bigger space. Making Moving Better, Movex from Stella S. in FL - March 13, 2007 I am getting ready to move to Philadelphia and need to move 2 motocycle, a dirt bike and tools. Also, I would have few boxes for my personal belonging such as computer, TV and misc but no furniture. Do you do that? Stella, We sure do. I think you would need between 10 and 14ft on the moving truck, depending on how much you have in the way of personal belongings. Since we provide loading ramps, the motorcycles will be a cinch to move. Making Moving Better Movex from ben C. in NY - March 12, 2007 we've sold our house & will be moving from L.I.,N.Y. to Deerfield Beach Fl. we're selling almost all of our furniture & we only need to move our china, clothes & a few small pieces of furniture(desk, mirror,TV etc.). how would movex handle this move or would it be cheaper for us to rent a small van ourselves. Ben,
Our rates coming to Florida should be very competitive. I would suggest that you call us at 800-876-6839 and let one of our relocation specialists know some more of your moving details. They can then help guide you through some choices on what size space you would need on the moving van. Making Moving Better Movex from Matthew W. in FL - March 9, 2007 Ref. # A795623
If I make a reservation for 5ft but need more room, how much does and extra foot of space cost? Matthew,
If you need more space while the moving truck is in front of your home, you simply pay the cost "per foot" that you have ordered for up to 4 extra feet (if available). If you order the space on the moving van ahead of time, you will save yourself some money. It is also easier to load if you have a little extra space to work with. Making Moving Better, Movex from JJ J. in PA - March 5, 2007 I am moving from Philadelphia to Phoenix. I am moving a very small amount of stuff - just one bedrooms worth. No furniture, maybe about 20 or so boxes/tubs and 2 tvs. What amount of space would I need? JJ, Our smallest shipment that we take on the moving truck is 4ft. That should be plenty of space for everything that you have listed here. With a shipment that small, you might want to consolidate and use UPS rather than rent space on a moving truck. There is a point where we are more competitive, but I don't think you will have enough to reach it. Making Moving Better Movex from Michele B. in MO - March 4, 2007 I am trying to figure out what size truck I need. Michele, We have moving trucks of all sizes and can accommodate any shipment. To get the most accurate quote, please fill out the form to the left and one of our representatives will follow up with you to help narrow down your pricing. Making Moving Better Movex from E H. in AZ - March 4, 2007 I have a washer and dryer, a few pots and pans, a closet-full of clothes, and armoire, and a flat-screen TV with a few other small miscellaneous things. What size moving van should I be thinking about? E, I would say that our smallest size (4 feet) on the moving truck would be good for you. Each moving truck is 8.5 feet wide and 9ft hight. If you fill out a form to the left of our site, it will give you some instant rates that are very competitive. I would recommend making a call to our service center at 800-876-6839 also. We have some opportunities for customers with small shipments that might save you some money. Making Moving Better Movex from Christine A. in NY - March 4, 2007 I have 2 curio (glass & wood) that I'd like to move from Florida to Staten Island, NY - would that be a problem? Christine, Since Movex uses fully-equipped professional moving trucks for all of our transportation, you will have the best possible movement of your curios by our service. Each of our moving trucks is air-ride and comes equipped with furniture blankets so that you can wrap and pad your goods to keep them from being damaged. Making Moving Better, Movex from Marianne L. in CO - March 2, 2007 I have all my belongings in a 10 x 30 foot storage unit--its pretty full--floor to ceiling, front to back. What size van should I be looking at? Marianne,
You will fill up the better part of 36ft of space on a moving truck. The moving trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft tall. 36ft of length should be enough for you to load everything.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Alan B. in AZ - March 2, 2007 I have 2,532 square feet of home (4 bedrooms, 2 3/4 baths, with dining room, kitchen, family room, den and a 2.5 car garage)....and want to transport my "baby," a BMW Z3 covertible PLUS....a "standard" washer & dryer and a 3' by 4' freezer. How much truck space (or linear footage) for all do you think I need? Thanks!
Alan,
Based on the limited information above, I would order 32ft of space on the moving truck for the furniture so that you have plenty of room. The car can go on the same truck as the furniture (cars take up 16ft). So, I would call in and get a rate for the whole moving truck (48ft). That will give you plenty of room to load your goods and you have the security of exclusive use of the moving truck.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Jessie S. in GA - March 2, 2007 We have a 3 bedroom home with 2 living rooms, and quite a lot of woodworking tools in the garage. I asked for a quote on a 4+ bedroom home to hopefully cover all the bases. If we don't use as much room as is quoted, do we get charged less or is the quoted price locked in? Thanks! Jessie,
We order the space in advance on the moving truck so you only pay for the space you order. If you order a 36ft shipment and use 34ft, you will still pay for the 36ft. That being said, our prices are very competitive on these shipments. Having a little too much space is always better than not having enough and having to order another moving truck for an overflow.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Jan J. in VA - February 27, 2007 I need to move 1000-1200 cu ft of household goods from 24343 to 11385, but cannot figure out how to second guess the volume into your rooms system since my rooms are more than full of stuff. Can you help me? Jan,
I would put in a quote for 5+Bedrooms. It will give you rates for 36ft and for a full moving truck. The rates for a full moving truck are actually super competitive in your particular lane. By getting a whole moving truck, you will have plenty of room to load and won't have to worry about running out of space.
Making Moving Better Movex from Ms M. in MA - February 27, 2007 I received a Movex D2D estimate that had a couple of options: 6' of space or 7'. what does that mean? I used a 14' u-haul truck when I moved to Boston and have the same amt of stuff to bring back to virginia Ms Marshall,
Our estimator gives you a general idea of how much space you will need on the moving truck. When it shows 6'or 7', it means 6 to 7 linear feet on a moving van. The moving vans are considerably wider and higher inside than rental trucks.
That being said, how full was the 14' truck that you rented before. To match the same volume of space on our moving van that you had on your rental truck, you would need 10' of space.
If you call us at 800-876-6839, one of our relocation specialists can help you choose the best size.
Making Moving Better Movex from Joanne R. in CA - February 27, 2007 I have gotten an estimate based on a four bedroom house. How much space/feet would that estimate encompass? And what if we need more or less space on moving day? Is it better to under or over estimate? Thank you for your time! Joanne, If you filled out our quickquote form, you should have gotten rates and spaces. A four bedroom house, depending on how furnished, will take up approximately 28 to 36 feet on a moving truck. I would suggest ordering more than less. It is much less expensive to order the space up front. Also, if you have more space on the moving truck, you don't have to stack everything so high.
Making Moving Better, Movex from vivian J. in OR - February 20, 2007 1. we will move from Portland,OR97229 to the Woodlands,TX77382,and we have a upright piano that we need move to also, can we put it with other house staff together in one load? thanks. Vivian,
Sharing a truck is the best way to get the most for your money. We only charge $95 for an additional pickup, so if you have the opportunity to share a truck, do it!
If you call us at 800-876-6839, one of our relocation specialists will show you how to save big bucks on your next move. from John W. in PA - February 18, 2007 We have 2 car can you handle that and 5 rooms of things. John,
I would recommend you renting an entire 48ft moving van from us. You could then load your furniture in the front (nose) of the trailer and put your two cars in behind it.
25% of Movex customers ship at least one car with their order. It is inexpensive and convenient to have all of your "stuff" arrive at the same time.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Thomas C. in MD - February 16, 2007 I will be moving from Highland, Maryland to Homosassa, Florida this summer. I estimate 3 bed rooms plus and a 8 foot square hot tub. Is the truck able to accomadate the hot tub resting flat? Thomas,
The moving vans that we provide are 102" wide. This is significantly wider than a rental truck. A hot tub will barely fit in it if you lay it flat. Most hot tubs are designed to ride up on their side. I would check with the manufacturer.
With Movex moving trucks, you will have the straps and pads so that you can secure the hot tub against the wall of the truck. That is really the only safe way to move it.
Making Moving Better, Movex from benjamin C. in NY - February 9, 2007 we will be selling our house & moving to Florida in a few months. our home in florida is basically furnished so we would only be moving china & a few small pieces of furniture(family keepsakes) is movex a way to go or just rent a small van? Benjamin,
It is going to be a toss up. Our minimum shipment runs about $750. It is all going to come down to whether or not you need a truck rental, van rental, or part of a moving van. If you call in, one of our reps can quickly help you make that determination and get you some pricing... whether you use Movex or not.
Happy Moving, The Movex Web Team from Maureen C. in CA - January 30, 2007 I am moving from from California to Maine. No Furniture just boxes. Do you take small loads? Maureen,
The smallest load that we can put on a moving van (we provide moving vans, not rental trucks) would be 4 linear feet of space (so 4x8x8). If you have a lot of boxes, we would be a good economical choice. If you don't have that many, I would suggest UPS. For your reference, our minimum charge is $750. Hope this helps.
The Movex Web Team from Monica G. in TX - January 25, 2007 I just got married and I'm moving to Newburgh, NY. All I have to move is some wedding gifts, two small couches, a small table with 4 chairs, and a cedar chest. How much room would I need for this move? Monica, I would say a 4 to 6 ft compartment on one of our moving truck rentals would work well for you. If you fill out one of our forms to the right, we will promply return a moving estimate to you. Thanks, The Movex Web Team from Shaun S. in NM - January 18, 2007 I'm moving from Boston to Santa Fe. I only have a few boxes of clothes, a few boxes of books and files, and 3 computers. Is it economical to use movex or just ship my stuff and carry as much as I can on the plane? Shaun, Best bet is to ship the stuff and carry as much as you can on the plane. Our minimum shipment is still $750. We will save you a lot of money when comparing us to a moving van or a rental truck, but not on shipping a few boxes. Best of Luck, The Movex Web Team from Sheree L. in CA - January 17, 2007 I have a 5x10 storage unit in Crystal, Minnesota. I have an Amoire, Long Dresser, Double bed, 2 piece long head board, 2 end tables, sewing machine cabinet and about 12 large boxes. I would like to get a quote on how much it would cost to send to Anaheim California. Thank-You. Sheree,
I forwarded your information to one of our in-house specialists. We will email the price to the email that you provided. If you need immediate assistance, please call 800-876-6839. Thanks, The Movex Web Team from Bruce P. in AZ - January 7, 2007 We have a very small shipment (table and chairs, piano, sofa and TV) going from Florida to Arizona. What is your minimum charge? Also, can you arrange help to load and unload the piano? The smallest shipment that we will handle is 4ft of space on one of the moving vans. Depending on the type of piano, you should only need 4 or 5 feet of space on the truck (5x8x9)ft. We have several small moving companies all over the country that will assist you with loading and unloading. We do not actually provide loading and unloading service, but will be happy to put you in touch with them if you are using us for the transportation. To get the ball rolling, we will need more information about your moving requirements. Please give us a call during business hours at 800-876-6839 so that we can get you a guaranteed price.
The Movex Web Team from Maria M. in CA - December 29, 2006 My daughter moved to Arizona (from California) and didn't have room to take a dresser, headboard, bed frame, and a small tv cabinet. What is the smallest amount of furniture you can take for a ride? Maria,
