> Ask A Question > Add A Comment from Nancy C. in MD - July 15, 2008 Hello: I am moving from MD to FL. I need to move 2 bedrooms of items and my Ford Exployer. I don't know the best way to do it... Either rent a truck one way and ship my car separate. Any advise and quotes would be appreciated. Nancy,
I would recommend ordering enough space on one of our moving vans to load your household goods AND your car and then fly out. You will be surprised by how inexpensive it is. Call a relocation specialist at 800-876-6839 for pricing and options.
Movex from Everett C. in CA - July 6, 2008 What is the size of your smartbox and how long do I get to keep it to load my belongings. The standard box size is 5x7x8 feet. You can have up to three days to load at no additional charge. from jeff P. in FL - June 7, 2008 do you offer a 10'or12'moving van Jeff,
We can give you a 10' or 12' compartment inside a larger moving van. All of the moving trucks are 48 to 53' long and are broken down into individual compartments with moveable walls inside the cargo area. Movex helps you save money by splitting up those trucks and sharing the cost of the trip with others.
Movex
from june H. in OK - June 6, 2008 how big is the equipment dropped off (ie truck)? June,
Movex provides services on 53' moving trucks. These are the same as the "big rigs" that you see driving on the interstate. Each moving van is equipped with moveable walls, so we can provide you anywhere from 6ft up to the whole truck in which to load.
Movex from STEVE F. in NY - June 1, 2008 How do you determine the size of your shipment? Steve,
There are some "rules of thumb" that you might want to use. As a rule, you should consider about 4.5ft of truck space per furnished room. Obviously, a more heavily furnished room would require more, less...less.
If you want to really be certain about the amount of space, the best thing to do is to go in your garage or driveway and measure off 8.5ft wide by the length of space that you are thinking about ordering. "Pre-load" all of your non-critical items into this space. You can then have a pretty good estimation of whether or not you will need additional footage on the moving truck.
There is no exact way to determine the amount of space. When in doubt, order too much. The extra couple of feet will not cost that much and the peace of mind will be well worth it.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Linda M. in KY - May 24, 2008 I'm not sure I understand what 10 ft. means. How much furniture will 8ft. or 10 ft. of spadce hold? Linda,
Each of the moving trucks is 8.5ft wide and 9ft tall. The length of space is what is quoted on this website. The best way to determine if all of your stuff will fit in the space is to measure it out in a room of your house or in your garage/driveway. You need to determine if that is going to be enough space in which to load all of your belongings. Much the same way you would decide which size Uhaul truck to rent, 10ft, 14ft, 17ft, or 24ft.
We can provide you any size space on a moving truck that you request... from 6ft up to a full 53ft moving van.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Kate M. in IL - May 15, 2008 We are moving from Plano, IL to Tombstone, AZ over the next 6 to 9 months. I want to ship the first load of items to Arizona in early July 2008. My concern is the road to our new house. It is a dirt/rock road and it runs about 2.5 miles back to our house. Can you get the truck up that road? Kate,
The large moving trucks are not designed to drive on anything other than pavement. Your best bet is to shuttle everything from the "hard road" in smaller vehicles that can handle the dirt and rock. There is too much risk that the tractor-trailers will get stuck in the dirt.. it is darn near impossible to get them unstuck once they are in a bad spot.
Making Moving Easier (kind of), Movex from susan B. in FL - May 14, 2008 I live in st augustine fl and we are moving to paradise,ca. My husband does not think a big truck will be able to get in our drive way. The drive way is 18 feet wide. Would you guys be able to get it in the drive way. Susan,
18ft wide is certainly wide enough for the moving truck as long as the driver can back straight in. There is not enough room there to turn, but a straight back-in should be fine. Worst case scenario, the driver would need to park on the street and you would need to bring the furniture down the driveway.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from jane S. in FL - May 13, 2008 I received a quote on this web site for 6ft. is that sq. ft.? Jane,
That quote is for linear feet. So, the space that you would get on the moving truck would be 6ft long, 8.5ft wide, and 9ft tall.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Lisa J. in IL - May 13, 2008 The city we are moving from has restrictions for overnight parking. THe truck would have to fit in our driveway. How much space do you need to park the truck?
Thanks Lisa,
The moving trucks would require approximately 70ft of space for parking. For security reasons, we do not leave the moving trucks overnight. We would bring them in the am and you would have all day to load.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Ken M. in TX - February 26, 2008 We will be using you to move us from Dallas, TX to Wilmington, NC in March. We have had to change the date of our move and really appreciate the flexibility and communication from your team. Thanks
Do you have any pictures of some of the transporters you have used recently to give us an idea of what the truck will look like?
Thanks, Ken Madsen Ken,
We're glad to be able to help and look forward to serving you.
If you go to the homepage and watch the flash animation, the second step of the Movex process is "We Drive". The moving truck shown in that shot would be representative of what you should expect to see on moving day.
If you would like actual pictures, please contact your relocation specialist, we have a number of photos (that were actually taken in our parking lot!) that we could send over to give you an idea of the interior layout of the trucks.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from Eric P. in CA - February 12, 2008 Do your moving trucks come with a side door opening? It would be easier for us to be able to have a ramp from the side of the truck to our front door? If not, how high off the ground is back load height? Thanks! Eric,
Some of the moving trucks have side doors, some do not. We can request one when you make your moving reservation. The loading height of all of the moving vans is between 42" and 48". With Movex, we provide nice long loading ramps and a dolly for you so that you can easily roll even the heaviest items into the back of the moving truck.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from ryan D. in TX - December 27, 2007 Military Move. I would like to place my motorcycle on a trailer and then put the trailer IN the back of the moving van. Do you have any restrictions on this. The trailor is small enough to fit inside the moving van.
Ryan,
The only thing that you need to keep in mind is that the inside dimensions on the moving truck are 8.5ft wide by 9ft tall. If your trailer will fit inside those dimensions, you are more than welcome to put it on the moving truck.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from laura M. in CA - December 15, 2007 I have many boxes packed & wish to move some now, though I am not yet ready to follow them to Denver. What kind of "partial" small moves might be done through you. Laura,
The minumum shipment size for a Movex relocation is 6ft of truck space. If you are moving just boxes, it is going to be cheaper to ship them via UPS. Once you put together a load that will take 6' of space on a truck or more, Movex can't be beat.
Making Moving Easier, Movex from David M. in FL - October 1, 2007 Can you tell me the dimensions and capacities of a five ton and a ten ton furniture van? David,
95% of the moving trucks that Movex provides are 53' long, 8.5ft wide, and 9ft high (inside dimensions). We do have a couple of smaller or "odd size" moving trucks running around out there, but the norm is listed above. All rates are calculated based on the dimensions that I have listed for the 53 footers.
Making Moving Better, Movex from M W. in TX - September 12, 2007 need to move from TX to MI in Dec live in apt complex can truck arrive morning of 14th and leave early same day to avoid blocking tennants for long period of time?
M,
An excellent reason to use Movex for this type of move is because the driver stays with the moving truck and will leave when you are finished loading.
Make sure that you have plenty of space for the moving van to park as they are full-sized (53ft) and hard to maneuver in an apartment complex. Check with your manager and make sure that there is, in fact, a place to park safely.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Sharon P. in NM - September 9, 2007 What sizes of trucks do you have ? Sharon,
Movex has access to several different moving truck sizes. However, the vast majority of the moving trucks that are used are the large, full-size, tractor-trailer moving vans. We utilize these larger moving trucks because we can fit more orders onto one vehicle, maximizing your savings because multiple shippers are sharing the cost of transport.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Greg I. in FL - August 31, 2007 what is the typical weight of a 12 foot truck rented from a Penske, Budget or Uhaul? Greg Greg,
You will need to check with your Penske, Budget, and Uhaul dealers. We only have information about the moving trucks that we use. On average, the empty weight of the moving vans that we utilize is somewhere around 14,000#.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Jorie P. in MA - July 24, 2007 Hello, we are currently living in an apartment in Boston, MA and planning a move to an apartment in San Francisco, CA. Both cities are very urban and don't offer much in the way of street parking for a 28' trailor. We will not have a private driveway at either residence. What sorts of options do we have when using a freight company? Jorie,
Movex is bonded with the city of Boston and has a parking permit to park anywhere that we can get a moving truck. San Jose does not give us the opportunity to do that, so you may have to shuttle the shipment from our truck to your new apartment. We will bring the moving van to the closest safe parking place where you would have to meet us and unload.
Please remember that we would bring a 53' moving van, not a 28' freight truck. You do not want to put your valuable furniture on a 28' pup trailer.
Making Moving Better, Movex from K L. in IA - July 17, 2007 This move is actually for my mother-in-law. She needs to move from Schaller, IA to Federal Way, WA. She does not have much to move (only furniture is a reclining chair). Do you offer service to these areas? Also, can I have an idea of what the cost would be on your smallest truck? K,
We offer direct service to both areas. If you have not already filled out a "quick-quote" form at the top of this site, do so and a relocation specialist will get you guaranteed pricing for some of the smaller sizes on the moving trucks.
Making Moving Better,
Movex
from brian L. in FL - June 28, 2007 I noticed you saying in one of your answers that your minimum charge is $750. How many linear feet are we talking about? Brian,
Our minimum compartment size on the moving trucks is 6ft. That should be enough to hold about a room and a half of furniture because the trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft high inside.
Making Moving Better, Movex from Gerry B. in GA - June 12, 2007 Your trucks are 8.5 ft wide. What is the inside height? What type of items would you recommend be packed on top? Gerry,
The moving trucks are 9ft high inside. This can pose an interesting challenge when you are loading. Use the furniture pads for the heavier stuff on the bottom and stack the lighter goods on top.
Movex from Anthony P. in NY - June 3, 2007 I would like to know what the maximum amount of weight your 53' trailers can carry, and what is the cu ft size of the trailer. Also, while I have little doubt that your truck can drive and park in front of my house, how can I be certain? Anthony,
The maximum weight of household goods that a moving truck can carry is somewhere around 25,000# (this would be a very dense, professionally loaded capacity). Most self-movers can fill the truck to a capacity of somewhere around 20,000#.
The actual weight limit that we allow on the trucks is 35,000#. If you had a garage full of woodworking tools and a library to move, you might be able to get that kind of weight loaded onto the truck.
The only way to be certain of a moving truck being able to park in front of your house is to a)have had one there before or b)let us try to get one there. Without actually trying, there is no way to be certain. 99.5% of our moves go without a hitch on parking.
Movex from Tonya H. in CA - May 25, 2007 What is the square footage of the truck for a 4 bedroom house plus. How long in feet not linear? I understand the price is based on the space used so I need to know what the square footage is.
Thanks Tonya,
All of the moving trucks are 53ft in length and 8.5ft wide. We are not sure we understand your question of "How long in feet not linear?". The price is actually based on the linear feet.
For example: 4 bedroom house = 32 linear feet (space required will vary with how heavily furnished, etc.).
Hope this helps.
Movex from Franklyn H. in FL - May 14, 2007 How many linear feet is on one truck, and what would be the cost associates for reserving the entire truck? Franklyn,
Each moving van is 53 feet long with an inside width of 8.5 feet and an inside height of 9 feet.
The cost for reserving and entire moving truck is based on where you are moving from and to and when you are moving. If you call us at 800-876-6839, one of our relocation specialists will gladly assist you with obtaining the best price for your move.
Movex from cary B. in CA - May 1, 2007 what is the dimension of the truck - when you say 8ft - what does 8 mean? 8 by what? Cary, The moving trucks are 8.5ft wide, 9ft high, and up to 53ft in length. We break the 53ft trailers down into independent compartments starting with sizes as small as 4ft. You can get any length that you need. Making Moving Better, Movex from Kristen B. in CA - May 1, 2007 I'm looking for a Cargo Van that I can take One Way to move a large machine. Do you provide this service? While we don't provide cargo van service, we can give you a 4 or 6 ft compartment on a moving truck that might work. If you call into our office at 800-876-6839, one of our relocation specialists can give you some more options. Making Moving Better Movex from David S. in LA - May 1, 2007 I need to move my daughter from Sonora, CA to Tulsa, OK. 1. Do you have small trucks as a full size truck will not fit in her driveway or street? 2. Can we coordinate arrival a week or two later?
Thanks David, All of the moving trucks are the big "moving van" style. They are about 53ft in overall length. If we cannot fit the truck onto her street, she may need to shuttle the goods to the closest safe place for the driver to park. We can work with you on arrival times, but extending out past a week can be difficult. Making Moving Better, Movex from Brian P. in FL - April 26, 2007 What are the dimensions of the truck so I can get a better idea of what is going to fit in there. Brian, The moving trucks that Movex uses are 8.5ft wide, 9ft tall, and 53ft long. We can take a shipment as small as 4ft and in 2ft increments up to the entire moving van. We have tremendous flexibility to provide you with the size you need. Making Moving Better Movex from Mary S. in FL - April 24, 2007 I have an antique large dining room table, chairs and buffet in Strongsville, Ohio that I am trying to bring to Daytona Beach, Florida. Obviously this is not a full load for a moving van, so would it still be feasible to ship it through your company or would it be better (cheaper) to go up there and rent a uhaul myself? If you did do load it, what kind of timeframe and cost? Would we have to wait until you received other loads to fill truck? Mary, Movex is the only self-service mover that provides air-ride vans, loading ramps, furniture blankets and pads, tie-down straps, and a dolly for you to use. Anyone reading this should take note that if you have nice wood furniture, you should be using Movex to keep your furniture in good condition. To answer your question, we will put your shipment on the same truck with other orders (each order gets a private compartment on the truck that is separated with plywood walls). We are constantly moving customers so you will not have any waiting for us to fill out. Movex has the fastest and most reliable transit times in the industry. Making Moving Better Movex from Diane S. in PA - April 24, 2007 hi,,we are moving from Philadelphia to Davenport Florida...do you have flat rates for moves?or do you go by weight or distance? Diane, Movex charges customers based on the size (length of space in truck) and distance. With full-service movers, you are charged by the weight. We don't price by weight because you always have a surprise at how much your move will cost. With Movex, you know exactly how much you are paying before the truck arrives. Making Moving Better Movex from EMILY H. in UT - April 4, 2007 What is the length of the truck? I have some 16 foot decking material I would like to move. Emily, See the question below. The cargo portion of the moving trucks is 53ft total. You can get any part of that space that you need. Making Moving Better Movex from Orienthus G. in MI - April 4, 2007 How long is the trailer? The space in front of my house is about 20ft. I need to be sure that that the trailer will fit. If that doesn't work, I have a driveway that is about 65ft in length. Will this work out? Can you park the trailer in driveway? Orienthus, The moving trucks are as large as 70ft (including the tractor portion of the truck). The trailer portion is 53ft long and could be dropped in your driveway for loading. Making Moving Better Movex from Karen H. in CA - March 31, 2007 can you show me how big is the truck that i am getting. it is a 6 feet truck.
thanks Karen, If you watch the 3 point animation on this page, you will see a truck that is indicative of the moving trucks that are arranged by Movex. The space that you are ordering is 6ft x 8.5ft x 9ft. Making Moving Better Movex from Seth H. in NV - March 29, 2007 Do you have trailers that you can tow yourself. If not can you give me a list of others that might have this service? Thank you very much Seth, Movex provides the moving truck, furniture blankets, tie-down straps, dolly, and loading ramp. That being said, we can take a shipment as small as 4ft on one of the moving trucks. We do not have any rental trailers for towing. Making Moving Better Movex from Molly F. in VA - March 26, 2007 What are the dimensions of the truck? I have 6 linear ft./383 cubic feet, but how can I find out the height, width & length? Molly, The moving trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft high. The overall length is 53ft, but you can order a space as small as 4ft on that truck. Hope this helps. Making Moving Better Movex from Ted H. in VA - March 19, 2007 How big our your trucks in length?
How long does one have to load and unload the truck once it arrives if you use the entire space in the truck? Ted, The moving trucks are full-sized moving vans that are 53ft long. If you are using the entire truck, you will have 12 hours to load. Additional days for loading are available. Please speak to your relocation specialist about that if needed. Making Moving Better, Movex from Mike N. in CA - March 18, 2007 I am planning to move from CA to NY in April. What are the inside dimensions of your trucks? Also, once I pack the truck, about how long will it be until my belongings arrive in NY? (I am planning a 10 day cross country trip with my family.) Is this a set time or do you have storage options at the other end? The inside dimensions on the moving trucks are 8.5 x 9 x ??(you can choose the length). It will generally take about 6 days to transport across the country. When you speak to your relocation specialist, let them know your needs and they will give you options on how we can help you with your move. Making Moving Better, Movex from Richard C. in OH - February 6, 2007 Is the truck I rent a straight truck or an 18 wheeler? Richard,
You would actually be renting space on an 18 wheeler. We do have some straight trucks available if you need a smaller truck. We can accommodate any size shipment from 4 to 53 feet. We are looking forward to helping you with your move.
The Movex Web Team from MERRY M. in NV - February 1, 2007 what is you largest truck? Merry,
We have full-sized moving vans that are as long as 53ft (inside loading dimensions). We can take a shipment as small as 4 linear feet or we can give you exclusive use of a professional moving van.
The Movex Web Team from stephen B. in CA - January 6, 2007 How big are your trucks? Do you have any with lift gates, or just dolly ramps? How many days are included in the quoted price for packing & unloading? What are the hidden costs beyond your quote? Are my belongings insured by you if your driver has a wreck? Is the delivery date guarenteed? Stephen, Movex will send a moving truck that is anywhere from 22ft to 53ft. The moving van that is sent depends on your needs and availability. We have very minimal availability of trucks with lift-gates. Most of them are equipped with loading ramps. We allow anywhere from 4 hours to 24 hours to load and/or unload the truck. Again, it depends on how much space you have reserved. Once you have spoken to one of our relocation specialist to evaluate needs, there are no hidden costs with your move. The rates that they quote you are guaranteed. Your belongings are insured in the event of a catastrophic loss (ie. wreck, overturn of the truck, fire). The delivery dates are guaranteed. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call us at 800-876-6839 or post them here for everyone to read.

All of the moving vans that we use are large, but are separated into compartments with moveable walls. You can take as litte or as much space as you need. If you fill out a quote request at the top of the page on the right hand side, one of our relocation specialists will call you to outline some of our different and cost-effective ways to move. As far as timing, it will take approximately 5 days to ship a full truckload of goods from CA to TN. We have the best transit times in the moving industry.
